This hotel is right in front of Copa Cabana beach, so the location is good for beachgoers. ( nicer if you have an ocean front room)

Upon my arrival at this hotel, the reception was cold and impersonal. The receptionist too 10 minutes to acknowledge that I was standing right in front of him while he was looking at his computer screen. And then looked up and asked if someone was attending to me. If I had not booked a room and ran the risk of losing a nights fare, I would have left and taken my business somewhere else. This hotel is also not worth the money. I have traveled to brazil now for many years and this hotel, by far - the worst.

A simple breakdown of my visit

Great location just steps from the beach! Enjoyed the fine ocean views from the room which, though simple, were quite comfortable. The rooftop restaurant was a highlight, especially with the delicious breakfast options. Friendly staff and a cozy atmosphere.

Excellent location and helpful and considerate staff.

Compared to other hotels Debret is a little bit old. But its facilities are all covered with wifi Internet. I think it's a good hotel in an old building.

Thank you for a really great stay. The place is modest and fairly clean, it offers satisfactory breakfast and incredible location on Bourbon Street. The employees are incredibly kind and courteous. Have a drink at the rooftop bar. All in all they offer helpful service. Moreover, it has good wi-fi, really handy.

The breakfast was decent, not great. The location on the Copa Cabana beach was excellent.

The initial Reception staff were neither friendly nor welcoming. Despite requesting a sea facing room nearly a month before getting there, I was first shown a room with a view of a duct, then a view of a parking lot and finally with a view of the sea...although I was first asked to pay extra in cash, upfront, for this (I did not do that). Reception staff after the first day were somewhat better in manner. The other staff were friendly but the initial impression spoiled everything. Toiletries were almost never replenished in the bathroom (we stayed 4 days). I doubt if anything more than surface cleaning was ever done in the room.

The location.

We stayed in a triple room and we had to ask for toilet paper twice. I think they should know that since there are three people in the room we'd need more toilet paper! They also didn't sweep/clean the floor whenever they fix the beds. One time my bed wasn't even returned to its original position. The windows were very dirty. There was a stain in one pillowcase. The towels had dates written on it so you know it was bought in 2009. The air conditioner was located in the side of my bed which means that I must put the coverlet on my legs at all times otherwise they'd be frozen in the morning. The glasses we used in the breakfast buffet weren't clean, it had water stains and fingerprints all over. They also lied about the picture of the facade of the hotel! It's totally different now.

would happily go back again

The location is perfect, just steps from Copacabana Beach. Enjoyed the family room with air conditioning, tv, and a private bathroom. The shower had amazing water pressure. The breakfast served fresh fruit and tasty pastries. Rooftop offers fine views of the beach, great for sunsets!

The location of Hotel Debret outweighs any negatives. It is across from Copacabana Beach. The breakfast room overlooks the bay and across to Sugarloaf. And the breakfasts are very generous. The staff were always helpful and each request solved. The hotel is slowly getting renovated floor by floor but whilst the rooms at the back are basic the position makes easy transport, food and shopping. Not forgetting the action on the beach. There is a new restaurant at the front of the hotel which is very nicely presented and a good range of food choices.

Great value, great location, very good staff and dinner restaurant. Very nice view from breakfast room.

Hotel needs a general facelift and overall better cleaning. The breakfast can be bettered too. Rooms are ok but very 70ish. Nothing at all luxury, but the view, price and location compensates a lot!

I highly recommend trying the rooftop restaurant for sunset views, as it enhances your experience and showcases the beautiful scenery.
